Install Periscopes
Requirements
Section titled “Requirements”- macOS 26 Tahoe (26.2 or later).
- Permission to approve a system extension on the Mac. macOS may ask for an administrator password.
Download
Section titled “Download”Install with Homebrew:
brew install --cask riptides-packages/tap/periscopesOr download Periscopes.dmg, open it, and drag Periscopes into Applications.
First run
Section titled “First run”- Open Periscopes from Applications. A short setup guide opens: Install Extension, Enable Proxy, Done.
- Click Install Extension. macOS blocks the extension until you allow it: open System Settings → General → Login Items & Extensions → Network Extensions and turn on Periscopes. The setup guide has an Open System Settings button that takes you there.
- When macOS asks whether Periscopes may add proxy configurations, click Allow. The proxy configuration then starts by itself.
- The setup guide shows Done, and the Periscopes icon appears in the menu bar.
Periscopes sends traffic to the Riptides proxy at 127.0.0.1:8089. Until the proxy is running, the menu bar shows Proxy unreachable and your connections go straight out, uninspected.
On Macs managed by your company, steps 2 and 3 may not appear. See Deploy with MDM.
Update
Section titled “Update”With Homebrew:
brew upgrade --cask periscopesWith the disk image, replace Periscopes in Applications with the new version. On its next launch, Periscopes replaces the older network extension with the one it ships with.
Uninstall
Section titled “Uninstall”Quit Periscopes from its menu bar menu, then drag it from Applications to the Trash. macOS removes its network extension along with the app and may ask for an administrator password. If a Periscopes entry is still listed in System Settings → VPN & Filters, remove it there.
On Macs managed with the Periscopes MDM profile, the extension can’t be removed this way. Ask your IT team.
